The checklist for a great subscription form

Whether you’re a seasoned email marketing or you’re just starting out, everyone wants to gather as many new subscriptions as possible. But does the subscription form on your website entice your visitors enough to subscribe? With this checklist you can make sure it does!

1. Is there a call to action above the fold? 100900-get-ideas-for-web-design

Your visitor needs to be convinced to take action without having to scroll down. Research shows that a call to action (CTA) or button under the fold is only seen by 50% of the visitors on that page. Maybe you can even include a call to action at the top and on the button of the page, for those people who still need some convincing.

2. Be clear about your offer or incentive

Your subscription form is extra effective when you’re giving away something for free to every contact that subscribes. This can be a whitepaper, an e-book, or a free consultation for example.

Make sure that your offer is included clearly in your call to action. A CTA that says “Download your free guide for X” is much more convincing than one that says “Download now”.

3. Also include images and not just text

Images get more attention on a web page than just blocks of text. Put one next to your subscription form.

4. Use colors that create contrast with the color scheme of your website

Make sure that your call to action immediately pops out with the first look on the page. You accomplish this by choosing a contrasting color for your call to actions, a color that isn’t part of the color scheme of your website.

5. Your call to action links to the right page

If you’re linking to your subscription form from another page, your call to action should link to a page with your offer. You don’t want to let your visitor go on a treasure hunt to find your form. Make sure that your CTA links to the right page. And don’t stack this page with other content that could distract your visitor from your form.

6. Add CTA to every relevant blog post

Are you writing a blog post that has something to do with your offer or incentive? Definitely include a CTA to your subscription form. Visitors that read this post, are probably also interesting in the free content you’re giving away for every subscription!

7. Keep your text short and simple

Display the value of your free content in just a few sentences or bullet points. Visitore should immediately get what’s in it for them!
